Today was started early again. I still haven't gotten used to the bed, and although I am sleeping, I keep waking up. Still it meant we could get up early, around 7:30AM and head for breakfast in Chanterelle restaurant (or so we thought - see day 5).
I just had Churros with Nutella, Nóirín had a selection of different things. Churros were good, if not a little soggy. After Breakfast we went back to the room, and got ready for the beach, which included a selection of Factor 30 and Factor 50 sun creams and sprays.
We stayed at the beach all morning, just reading and sunbathing (in Nóiríns case, Sun is too hot for me to stay in for too long), with the occasional dip in the sea for me, until about 1PM. We then went to meet the Thomson rep to pay for the trip to Saona Island on Sunday.
On the way to the restaurant for lunch, we stopped by the butler, to once again ask about fixing the shower door and the chair on the balcony, He seemed shocked that it still hadn't been done, and started calling someone on the radio. He said they were fixing another room, and would be with us after.
We had a quick lunch in the "Chanterelle restaurant" and then went to the room to re-apply sunscreens. In the afternoon, we went to the poolside rather than back down to the beach. The pool is right next to the room. We are on the first floor, with the ground floor being swim up rooms, so all we have to do is go down stairs, walk about 50 feet, and we're at the pool. We found a shady spot with a sunny place for Nóirín to sunbathe in, and stayed there for the afternoon, relaxing and reading.
Around 6:30 PM we went back to the room to prepare for the Italian restaurant. Several of the restaurants have a dress policy of long trousers and no sleeveless shirts for men, although T-Shirts are fine, The only long trousers I brought were my jeans, so I ended up quite warm for the evening.
While we were eating our starters, 3 local singers with guitars and what looked like cheese grater asked us if we wanted them to play for us. I said "Si" and then he asked if we wanted "Romantica or Allegri". from the look on Noirins face I went with Allegri. They were very good, and we gave them a tip, before they went on to play a "Romantica" song for another couple. I'm glad I chose "Allegri", the "Romantica" was very cheesy.
For our mains, I had the Calzone, and Nóirín had the Loin of Pork with Marsala sauce. My Calzone had WAY too much cheese, and Nóiríns Pork was overcooked. They delivered Nóiríns Pork to the table, and then I had to wait about 5 minutes for them to deliver my Calzone. When they did, they didn't warn me the plate was vey hot, so I burnt my fingers.
For desert, Nóirín had the Panna Cotta, and I had a selection of Ice Cream. The Run and Raisin(?) ice cream was nice, and Nóirín said the chocolate Ice Cream was good too, however, her Panna Cotta had no flavour.
We had decided to go and see a show after the meal, but I was too tired, so we decided just to head back to the room. Fell asleep pretty quickly, I'd say the heat and the lack of sleep last night contributed heavily. So ends Day 3
